Kruti Dev & DevLys 010 Keyboard Chart
The key for every Hindi letter in Kruti Dev 010 and DevLys 010 — vowels, matras, half letters and conjuncts — with Windows Alt codes for the extra characters.
Vowels (स्वर)

How to read the chart
Each card shows the Hindi character, the DevLys / Kruti Dev characters that produce it (in orange), and the keys to press on a US-English keyboard. “Shift+[” means hold Shift and press the [ key. Codes such as Alt+0216 are for characters that have no key: on Windows, hold Alt and type the digits on the numeric keypad, as described in Microsoft’s guide to inserting characters.
The chart is generated from the same code as our Unicode to DevLys converter, so it always matches what the converter produces.
Two rules that trip up new typists
1. The short i-matra comes first
ि is drawn to the left of its consonant, so you type it first: fd = कि. With a conjunct it goes before the whole cluster: fLFkfr = स्थिति, O;fä = व्यक्ति.
2. The reph comes last
The र् hook is drawn on top at the right of its syllable, so you type Z after the syllable and its matras: /keZ = धर्म, dk;Z = कार्य, ikVhZ = पार्टी. With an anusvara, the combined ± (Alt+0177) replaces Z: iw.kk±d = पूर्णांक.
Watch out for Word’s smart quotes
The ' key is श (half) and " is ष (half). If Word’s “straight quotes with smart quotes” option is on, Word replaces them with curly quotes as you type. Turn it off under File → Options → Proofing → AutoCorrect Options → AutoFormat As You Type (see Microsoft’s smart quotes article).
Frequently asked questions
Is the DevLys 010 keyboard the same as Kruti Dev 010?
Yes. The two fonts use the same character encoding, so every key in this chart types the same Hindi character in both fonts.
How do I type characters like Ø or ç that aren't on the keyboard?
On Windows, hold Alt and type the four-digit code shown in the chart on the numeric keypad, for example Alt+0216 for Ø (क्र). The number row above the letters does not work for Alt codes.
Where do I type the ि matra?
Before the consonant. For कि type f then d. For a conjunct, it goes before the whole cluster: स्थिति is fLFkfr.
Where does the reph (र्) go?
After the syllable that carries it, including its matras: धर्म is /keZ and पार्टी is ikVhZ. With an anusvara, use ± instead of Z.
I typed with these keys but see English letters. What's wrong?
The font is not applied. Select the text and choose DevLys 010 or Kruti Dev 010 in the font list. If neither appears in the list, the font is not installed on this computer.
